One-time verification code
Wait for normal delivery first and refresh manually if needed. Avoid clicking resend repeatedly, as the old code may expire or the sender may rate-limit you.
Inbox time budget
The real deadline is when the last valuable email is expected to arrive. Account for waiting, retries, and follow-up notifications so you don’t replace the address before an important message arrives.
Quick estimate
Choose the closest email type, then check whether account recovery or after-sales support may be needed.
Five time windows
These are not delivery guarantees, but common windows to consider when planning an address’s lifespan.
Wait for normal delivery first and refresh manually if needed. Avoid clicking resend repeatedly, as the old code may expire or the sender may rate-limit you.
Links may be delayed, and a site may ask you to verify again. Keep the same address and page token until the task is complete.
Some services generate download emails asynchronously. End the inbox only after confirming that the file opens and the trial is active.
These tasks are usually not suitable for a short-lived address. Create a long-term alias to cover exceptions, reshipments, and refund confirmations.
Use a stable personal email or long-term alias, and store recovery codes separately. A temporary email should not carry your long-term identity.
Before and after expiration
Add more available time while the task is still in progress. Extension does not turn a temporary inbox into a permanent account or reduce the risks of high-value accounts.
Create a new three-hour inbox and close the old address. An old address already submitted to a website will not update automatically.
Remove only the selected message; the entire inbox remains intact. Delete it early once a code has been used or sensitive content is no longer needed.
Check the spelling, wait one or two minutes, and refresh manually. If you request another code, use only the newest message; repeated resends may trigger rate limits.
Save the order number, recovery code, or downloaded file somewhere appropriate. A screenshot cannot replace a confirmation link that still needs to be clicked, nor extend a third-party link’s validity.
If password recovery, payment disputes, delivery updates, or security notifications are possible, switch to a long-term alias instead of repeatedly extending a temporary task.
Timing questions
TMPFox’s “switch address” creates a new inbox with the default duration and closes the old one; it does not rename the address with the remaining time.
The sender may still attempt delivery, but you should not expect continued access to the expired address or its contents. Switch to a long-term identity in advance if you need future messages.
Not necessarily. The sender’s queue, a typo, restrictions, or rejection of temporary domains could be responsible. Extending the address only gives you more time to wait; it cannot force delivery by a third party.
